Behind the scenes with Ross

Updated: Dec 6, 2019

Founder of Ouma, Ross Jones, certainly has some hidden traits we think we should share with you. We mean, if we’re going to be part of your team, then we should really let you in on every secret.

What inspires you?

People with purpose. I find myself being inspired by people every day, and those people are almost always those who have a real passion or purpose in life. Whether it be a parent who wants to work to build a better future for their child, or a couple of former athletes who have made it their mission to help others overcome the challenges they faced when retiring from sport. People with purpose remind me why I started Ouma, so that I could help them achieve their goals.

What’s your favourite console game?

FIFA, but not for the conventional reason of being a lad that loves football. When I was younger (about 13), I was exactly that, but I had a secret that led me to being a whizz on FIFA. My friends would always ask me how I would build such great teams and have loads of money in the transfer budget. Truth is, I loved the management side of it more than I did the games themselves. I was obsessed with buying young players who could be developed, investing in infrastructure and negotiating contracts (yup at 13!). After that, the fact that I’d built an awesome team and had millions in the transfer budget was just a bonus!

Fifa – the answer to anyone’s management training!

What’s your favourite season?

Winter. I love the cold crisp mornings, taking the dogs up the mountain and seeing the white mountain tops. I also love Christmas far too much, so the fact that Christmas falls into winter is just an added bonus.

He’s really not kidding, the office could be mistaken for the next North Pole grotto… it’s a wonder Santa didn't pop in to get him to double check the naughty/nice list!

If you could eat lunch with one famous person who would it be?

Probably Jason Segel (who plays Marshall Eriksen on 'How I Met Your Mother'). He seems like a genuinely funny guy who is far too relatable.

Would you rather go bungee jumping or sky diving?

Sky Diving. I’d be too afraid of the rope snapping.

But has no fear of the parachute working and starting from much higher in the sky... I know we don’t understand the logic either!

What type of car would you be?

Hands down, Land Rover. A truck that you can pack to the brim with your camping gear, Costco shopping, surfboards and bikes, and somehow always manages to get you from A to B.

If you could have any one superpower what would you choose?

Stopping time. Like Bernard’s watch. I could solve so many problems in quite literally no-time. But it couldn’t be like the film “Click” where I still aged. I’d end up looking like a 60-year-old by the time I’m 27.

But he’d be one wise 27-year-old that’s for sure!
